Minnesota bill would eliminate mortgage interest deduction

By Sanjay Talwani (March 17, 2022, 6:29 p.m. EDT) – Minnesota taxpayers would not be eligible for itemized deductions for home mortgage interest under legislation introduced in the House of Representatives on Thursday.

HF 4382, introduced by Rep. Aisha Gomez, D-Minneapolis, would prohibit personal income tax deductions for mortgage interest payments as defined in the federal tax code.

If passed, the bill will apply retroactively from the 2021 tax year.
